I am in pain. Back pain, that is, and lower back pain at that. I've had this happen to me twice before in the last year, and it's very mysterious. The pain arrives out of nowhere, stays a few days (just long enough to annoy me), and then vanishes. This bout of lower back pain began yesterday and was tolerable; today, it's still pretty tolerable but definitely worse than yesterday. I tried applying some IcyHot to the area but that did nothing. I also tried taking pain medication but that didn't do the trick either. I'm stumped as to what could be causing the problem and my overactive imagination is producing thoughts that I've become afflicted with some terrible malady that will have me dead in a week. Never mind the fact that, as I said, I've suffered with this same problem twice before. I shouldn't be that worried about it, really.Ironically, I was on the phone with Don this afternoon and when I told him of my dilemma he said, "You too? I started having back pain yesterday too!" Believe it or not, it is rather comforting to know that your best friend is also suffering from the same ailment and has an equally overactive imagination that also sees him as having a horrific and fatal disease.
Don says he's convinced we're just getting old. He and I are 37 and 32 respectively, and while part of me laughs at the thought of "getting old," I don't totally dismiss his theory because I remember hearing somewhere that once a woman hits 30 that either brain cells start beginning to die off or bones start deteriorating or...something. I forget. My point is that - well, he's got a point! Maybe I - we - are just simply "getting old."
At any rate, whatever it is, I hope this pain goes away by Wednesday because I have a writers group meeting and I always have fun at those and I don't want to be distracted with back pain. I remember that this same pain hit me last year during a writers group meeting and I was miserable.
